Mr. Christoph Jugel is Director Energy Systems at the Deutsche Energie-Agentur (dena) – German Energy Agency. He is responsible for dena projects on the further development of electricity grids (e.g. ancillary services, generation-/consumption-side flexibility, energy storage, grid fees, and integration of renewa- bles), continuing convergence of all energy consumption sectors (e.g. via power to gas), digitalisation of the energy sector, urban energy transition and decarbonisation of the energy system. In addition, he leads the ‘dena Study Integrated Energy Transition’, in which experts from multiple industries develop strate- gies for the transformation of all sectors towards an integrated energy system that meets climate goals while safeguarding competitiveness, energy supply reliability, and social acceptance.
Before coming to dena, Christoph Jugel ran his own consulting firm since 2008, giving strategic advice on the digital transformation of the energy industry, with emphasis on developing data-driven business pro- cedures and innovating business models by creating ‘Digital Business Ecosystems’. In addition, his com- pany operated a proprietary digital energy transparency platform. Before, he held various positions in the Arvato Bertelsmann group of companies since 2002, providing logistics and direct marketing services as well as working in the corporate headquarters and in an Internet start-up. Christoph Jugel studied and graduated in Business Administration at WHU (Otto Beisheim Graduate School of Management in Vallen- dar / Koblenz, Germany), with exchange semesters in the USA and Spain.
