Changing energy systems: Turning solid waste into green gas

For decades, energy systems have been mainly focused on major plants and intensive distribution networks. Although this centralisation scheme has enabled to develop new technologies and put forward innovation, it appears more and more decentralised solutions have turned up to offer local and green energy production independent from political and economic issues.

As a consequence, energy systems have changed in terms of technologies but also in social and economic aspects. Local energy productions are a component of the circular economy which aims at putting forward local consumption and production to reduce carbon emissions.

Naoden has developed modular compact power stations dedicated to small communities or industries using local waste (biomass or any dry carbonated matters) to produce energy varying from 50 kW to 500 kW combining the units. Energy output can be either Combined Heat and Power; Heat through burner or H2 for mobility used as a substitution of traditional energies with low carbon impact.

Naoden gasification and CHP units coupled with H2 catalyzer and compressor can produce Hydrogen to fuel vehicle engines. The expected production, according to the units considered, may vary from 30 kg/day to 100 kg/day (equivalent autonomy of 30 000 kms or 100 000 kms per day) with a price of Hydrogen varying between 2,85 and 6,7 €/kg H2. As a reference, the market shows an 8 to 10 €/kg on standard power to gas solutions, which confirms the economic feasibility of the offer.

European and national Environmental policies tend to support innovation programs on energy systems to reach CO2 emission objectives. Therefore, the market shows developments of innovative solutions and research programs that enable the emergence of technologies and co-developments (labs and industry) to be implemented on pilots. As an innovative startup in green business, Naoden benefits from this support from subsidiaries and cooperation with labs on research programs with subjects varying from inlet fuels gasification testing to energy output production (such as dual fuel engines, Hydrogen production…).

Being speaker this year at EAGC shall enable us to reinforce partnership in terms of commercial and/or technical development to promote the expansion of our modular waste to green energy solutions. More especially, Naoden is seeking collaboration upon Hydrogen solutions through pilot plants to confirm technical and economic issues.
